Rental Policy and Procedures

******Borrowing gear from WSBL is a privilege. Please respect all gear and the library. Failure to adhere to rental policies will result in termination of library membership. A request for re-admittance for membership can be made in the following year. 

Checking out gear

  • At your membership orientation you will be given a code to access the facility, do not share this code with anyone.

  • A check out board will be located inside the facility door to the left.
    An entire row on the gear check out board MUST be thoroughly filled out to borrow any gear. This includes: your FULL name, brand model name, color, and ID number that is on the gear, the exact rental and return dates. 

  • WSBL gear is intended for local use. If gear is leaving a 100 mile radius of the library, please inform us where the gear is going in the comments section of the check out board and via email.

Returning gear

  • Three days is the maximum rental period. Gear must be returned by 8pm on the third day from checkout. 

  • All returned gear MUST be put back in the correct location in the library.
     

Rental Period Extensions

  • If the desired rental period is longer than three days, Please note on the check out board. Email library management with details as to how long gear will be checked out and where it is being taken

  • 9 days (three rental periods) is the maximum extension period.

  • We would like to reserve this privilege to those who are trying to go on multi-day runs or out of town trips. If you live locally and have the ability to return gear in three (or less) days, please do so.
     

 

Damaged gear

  • It is your duty to inspect all of your own gear for defects. If gear is torn, ripped, or broken please place it in the repair bin and find another piece of gear. 

  • If gear was damaged while in use, notify us of the issue in an email and place gear in the damaged bin.

  • If you would like to volunteer to repair gear or would like to make repairs yourself, please email us.

Waiting List

  • If you would like to borrow something someone else has already checked out, there will be a waiting list message board that you can add your name, desired item and date or time frame you would like the desired item. 

  • If you would like to re-check out gear, please check and make sure no one is waiting on something you have before checking it out again.
     

Lost Gear

  • If you lost gear on your trip, email us and report it on the lost gear message board and notify us by email

  • If you have  been waiting or looking for a certain item and can’t find it and it appears that it is not checked out by someone else, please report it on the gear message board and notify us in an email.

Wish List and Gear Donations

  • If there is an item you would like to see the library acquire you can add it to the wishlist message board. 

  • If you see an item on the wishlist and you can donate it, let us know via email so we can appropriately inventory and add it.

  • Please do not drop off random pieces of donated gear without contacting us first.  We may not want or need it and the gear needs to be evaluated and inventoried before it is put into the library.

Safety Precautions

It is imperative that these precautions are respected - if they are not, membership will be withdrawn. Respecting our rules and regulations is not only for your own safety but it allows the White Salmon Boat Library to continue to operate and be a resource for the whole community. 

 

  • If you have never been kayaking or are new to the sport, you must go kayaking with another person who can help guide you. This is necessary to help you make decisions about what sections of river are safe, to instruct you on proper use of gear, as well as instruct you on how to kayak. Fatalities can occur anywhere, even paddling flat water. 

  • All participants must wear a suitable PFD while on the water

  • All participants must wear a suitable helmet

  • All necessary safety gear must be accessible on the river

  • Trained participants must be carry a throw rope at all times

  • Participants should be aware of personal skill level and how it relates to the river they are attempting

  • Participants must boat within personal skill level

  • Drug and Alcohol use strictly prohibited while using library gear

  • Participants must not use equipment on class V whitewater

Club Policies

  • All members must abide by the rules, regulations, and policies outlined by White Salmon Boat Library. Failure to comply will result in termination of membership.

  • There is zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol use when on the river with club gear.

  • White Salmon Boat Library does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, gender identity, and economic status and we expect all members to do the same.

  • There is zero tolerance for any sexual, physical, emotional or verbal harassment.

  • Respect for the WSBL decision regarding the sections of river you can run while checking out our gear.

  • We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.
